At Wit’s End: An Army Vet Finds Freedom from Back Pain

I retired out of the military in 2008. I was with the 101st Airborne Air Assault Division. I jumped out of airplanes for many, many years. I started getting some back [pain] about 6 to 8 months ago.

How did your pain affect your life?

I had noticed within my life and my family, that I couldn’t get out and do things like I normally used to enjoy, like going out and walking with my dogs or getting out in the garden or getting out and just enjoying a day of fishing or hunting. My mind got down to where I wasn’t feeling good and was at my wit’s end trying to figure out what the pain was [that was] going on.

How did you hear about Pain Free Patriots?

I heard about the wellness center through the [VA’s] Yellow Ribbon Program. I came here thinking it may take a year to get straightened out from my back injury and my back ailments, but it only took a short period of time.

How did Pain Free Patriots help?

So far, I’ve turned around 180 degrees with the problem with my mid-to-upper back. I’ve felt really great about what the staff and all the people who worked with the staff [have done to help] me get better with my back problem.

My friends can tell the difference. I’m out being more active. I get out. I’m more sociable. My wife thinks that I’m a new person now, that I get out and go do things. I can walk further in the malls or I can go grocery shopping with her and get things done. Where I was a burden, now I’m not a burden. I’m being productive. Even family members have said that I’m just getting out and enjoying life now.

Coming to the wellness center and receiving treatment, the technology they used was not technology that I had ever seen before, but it has worked immensely.
